LG Electronics (Troy, MI) introduced its next-generation 5G Release 16 (R16)-based smart telematics solution for connected vehicles, electric vehicles and automotive telematics architecture. The solution is designed to integrate the communications module and multiple antennas into a single unit.

The company began deliveries to a premium European automaker, marking the solution's first deployment in a production vehicle in Europe.

Features:

  • Consolidates communications module and up to 12 internal antennas into single unit, eliminating the need for traditional shark-fin antenna and scattered external antennas
  • Cuts down on radio frequency (RF) cabling and wiring complexity to help reduce overall vehicle weight
  • Versatile hardware layout where telematics and antenna boards can be combined or separated to fit diverse OEM platform needs across new and existing vehicle models
  • Built on LG's Automotive Telematics Platform (ATP) to maximize software reuse across vehicle lines by requiring only chipset-specific interface adjustments
  • Supports multiple communications chipsets to reduce supply chain risk
