Aptiv (Boston, MA) introduced the Advanced Occupancy Classification (AOC) System for in-cabin safety and automotive intelligence. The AOC system is designed for camera-only occupant detection with multi-parameter AI analysis.

The AOC system provides a vision-based software solution for optimized airbag deployment decisions for modern vehicle safety architectures using the FMVSS 208 standard.

Features:

  • Eliminates physical in-seat weight sensors and wiring hardware
  • Leverages advanced machine learning and computer vision to accurately differentiate adults, children, infants in carriers and inanimate objects based on height, weight and body position
  • Streamlines system bill-of-materials complexity
  • Enables single interior sensor to power more than 15 additional safety and comfort features, including driver-attention tracking, seatbelt-status monitoring and gesture recognition
  • Over-the-air (OTA) upgradable architecture
