South Carolina-based poultry processor Amick Farms plans to invest $74.5 million to expand its plant in Southeast Mississippi, state and company officials announced.

The company said that the project would increase the processing capacity of the Laurel, Mississippi, facility from 800,000 head per week to approximately 1.1 million head per week over the next three years.

Amick also expects to add about 190 jobs at the plant.

The company originally acquired the Laurel facility nearly five years ago.

“Amick Farms has been a great addition to Jones County. They have been a strong contender in our poultry industry since coming to Jones County in 2021,” Ross Tucker, the president of the Economic Development Authority of Jones County, said in the announcement. “We are proud to know they want to continue to grow and invest in our community.”
