Plastic Found in Buns and Bakery Goods

Recalled Bakery

Thomasville, Georgia-based Flowers Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling hamburger buns, hot dog buns and other bakery products due to the potential presence of small pieces of hard plastic that may have been introduced during production. These plastic pieces are considered choking hazards.

The products being recalled were distributed to retail customers under a variety of brand names in 18 states.The company initiated the recall following the discovery of small pieces of hard plastic in production equipment. No related injuries or illnesses have been reported.

Flowers Foods, Inc. is one of the largest producers of fresh packaged bakery foods in the United States, with 2018 sales of $4 billion. Flowers operates bakeries across the country that produce a wide range of bakery products and brands, including Nature's Own, Wonder bread and Butternut.
