Salmonella-Linked Tahini Recall Expanded

Four illnesses have been reported to date.

Bulk Label For Karawan Brand Tahini

Brodt Zenatti Holding LLC of Jupiter, Florida has expanded their initial recall to include all retail and bulk Karawan and SoCo brands of Tahini. The product was sold in 15.87 ounce jars and 105.8 and 599.6 ounce bulk buckets. All of the products were imported from Palestine between the dates of December 2018 and April 2019. The company has identified these products to be potentially contaminated with Salmonella.

The product was directly distributed to New York and Texas, with some distributors shipping to Massachusetts and Virginia. Four illnesses have been reported to date.

This recall has been initiated due to New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene laboratory results from two samples of Karawan brand tahini testing positive for Salmonella. Brodt Zenatti Holding LLC has ceased the importation and distribution of the product as it works with the FDA to continue investigating the cause of the problem.
