Material Handling Equipment Material Handling Equipment refers to equipment used to maneuver or store materials of any type . Material Handling Equipment serves the basic purpose of transporting materials from their existing location to an intended destination . The range of equipment used for material handling is huge encompassing equipment used for moving light-weight to bulk materials . Modern Material Handling Equipment are designed to respond to the harshest and demanding applications . Types of Material Handling Equipment There are numerous types of Material Handling Equipment. Some of them include Conveyors Fork Lift Trucks Reclaimers & Stackers Dock Lifts Conveyors A conveyor is a mechanical equipment that moves materials , Packages or units being assembled , from a source to destination in a continuous fashion . Different types of Conveyors include: Gravity Conveyors Belt Conveyors Live Roller Conveyors Chain Conveyors Gravity Conveyors Gravity Conveyors operate on the power of gravity thereby eliminating the need for motor power . Gravity Conveyors are used to handle packaged items ranging from light Bulbs to bagged Cement to heavy Castings. These Conveyors are efficient and help reduce power consumption costs and hence are used in many industries . They are ideal Conveyors for transporting light-to-medium weight loads in permanent or temporary installations . Belt Conveyors Belt Conveyors are used for maneuvering a variety of regular and irregular shaped products in a controlled manner . A belt conveyor consists of a loop – known as the conveyor belt , running continuously over two Pulleys. Powering one or both the Pulleys provides the necessary force to move the belt along with the material on its surface forward . The powered pulley is referred to as drive pulley and the other the idler . Belt Conveyors are used for moving light-weight , rugged , fragile-to-heavy loads on a horizontal , sloping or declined path taking into consideration the product stability and the capacity of the Conveyor Components. Conveyor Belts are predominant at check-out Counters of shopping centers where they are used to move shopping items . Conveyor Belts are also used in ski areas as a means of transport for skiers . Live Roller Conveyors Live Roller conveyor is a basic transportation conveyor for moving light-to-heavy duty loads between locations . Installation as well as maintenance of a live roller conveyor is simple and inexpensive , which makes it an invaluable transportation medium in operations requiring optimal performance with minimal downtime . Live Roller Conveyor is ideal for applications that require material flow to be stopped at specific points . Chain Conveyors Chain Conveyors are ideal for applications involving transportation of heavy-duty loads . Chain conveyor design consists of scraper crossbars that are attached to powered Chains. The scraper crossbars are responsible for moving loads along solid Pans - known as Troughs – on the conveyor . Chain Conveyors are designed to endure the harsh production line environment . They are built to be reliable even in the most demanding applications and are common in multitudes of industries . Forklifts Trucks A forklift truck , also referred to as high/low , a lift truck , a forklift or sideloader , is a powered industrial vehicle employed to lift and transport materials . Forklifts consist of power-operated L-shaped Steel Forks that are inserted under the loads to lift and move . The forklift operates on a diesel- , fuel- or liquefied petroleum gas-fueled internal combustion engine , or on one or more AC/DC Electric Motors dependent on battery or Fuel Cells. The mast of the forklift is a vertical assembly that performs the functions of elevating , lowering and tilting of loads . The mast is operated either hydraulically with a single or multiple Cylinders and interlocking Rails. Forklifts are also used to provide lateral stability , and can be operated by chain with a hydraulic motor as a source of motive power . Forklifts are commonly used to transport materials stored on Pallets. Fork Lift Trucks come in several variations and load-enduring capabilities . They are indispensable Material Handling Equipment in warehousing and manufacturing operations . Reclaimers & Stackers A reclaimer is a huge machine employed in bulk material handling applications . The function of a reclaimer is to recover bulk materials such as cereals and ores from a stockpile . A stacker , on the other hand , is also used in bulk material handling applications to stack the materials onto a stockpile . Reclaimers and Stackers were originally manually-controlled manned machines without remote Controls. Modern Reclaimers and Stackers are typically fully-automated with their parameters remotely set . Dock Lifts Docklifts (dock lifts) are work Platforms used for raising and lowering materials for positioning and loading . Dock Lifts are used in automotive and garage services , Wire and cable industries , telecommunications , construction , inventory management , electrical and power services , manufacturing , painting and other applications where it is essential to access above-ground locations .
