TILTERS |
Portable Container Tilters Eliminate Worker Bending and Stretching.
E-Z Reach tilters by Southworth are specifically designed to tilt wire baskets and other containers toward
workers so that parts are accessible without bending, reaching or stretching. Baskets up to 4,000 lbs can
be tilted 85 degrees. The tilters have front rollers, rear swivel casters and are equipped with a floor lock.
A push handle swivels out of the way when the tilter is in its desired position to allow the worker free
access to the basket. Units are available in both AC and DC models.

PROBLEM SOLVERS: SAFETY |
Keeping Pool Water Clean
While pools provide a relaxing escape for community members, keeping the water clean is a demanding,
round-the-clock task. The town of South Windsor, CT retrofitted its drives with ABB variable-frequency
drives to improve efficiency and reduce costs. With tens of thousands of dollars worth of utility costs
each season, plant supervisor Tim Friend wanted to address the high-energy usage resulting from always
running the pumps at full power, so he evaluated ways to reduce energy consumption while still maintaining
water purity.
“Fewer impurities are in the water when nobody is swimming, so by slowing the flow at night we knew we
could still maintain adequate filtration in the pool and the same levels of water quality,” says Friend…

Trailer Interlock System Safeguards Chemicals Site
When a truck pulled away prematurely from Millennium Inorganic Chemicals’ Baltimore, MD distribution
facility, causing a dock plate to fall, warehouse distribution superintendent Chris Gagliardi was convinced
of the need to physically restrain trucks during loading and unloading. He selected Castell’s Salvo trailer
interlocking safety system to prevent unscheduled truck departures, reducing risk to workers and potential
damage to loading docks and equipment.
In choosing a safety solution, Millennium evaluated both traditional bar systems and the Salvo system.
Design and cost-effectiveness were driving factors in the selection and installation of 8 Salvo Automatic
Interlock Systems at the plant. Each system consists of a Salvo gladhand lock, control panel, automatic
door interlock and barrier chain…

Wireless Technology Safely Monitors Railcar Temperatures
Emerson Process Management has applied a smart wireless solution to the problem of monitoring rising
temperatures in railcars containing chemicals at Croda Inc, an international specialty chemical manufacturer.
No matter where the railcars may be positioned at the Mill Hall, PA plant, a wireless temperature transmitter
on each car sends minute-by-minute temperature readings to a central host.
Croda uses this information to improve the performance and safety of its facility. In this way, Emerson’s
wireless system contributes to overall plant safety, making operators aware of any unexpected temperature
rise, while saving the company about $15,000 per year in reduced maintenance…
