Revolution Improves Comfort of Dock Workers

On an average day at Johnson Level & Tool, loading dock doors are open for up to 20 min or more at a time. During past winters, the heating system failed to keep the dock area warm, although an HV/LS fan was installed over the dock doors for better air circulation. Rite-Hite’s Revolution Fan, however, was an instant hit. The fan’s 4 aluminum Propell-Aire blades vary in width and pitch angle along their entire length, moving air more consistently across the whole blade to create an airflow of more than 360,000 actual cu ft/min. “We’re pushing about twice as much pressure with the new one vs. the old one,” notes Distribution Manager Mario Cherubini...

Vision Sensors Keep Eye on Oil Cap Assembly

Miniature Precision Components (MPC) uses an automated oil cap assembly system to install O-ring seals into molded thermoplastic caps and then to print on top of the caps. Because the hard tooling and traditional sensors in the cap assembly system proved unreliable, MPC selected 3 Checker 202 vision sensors from Cognex to ensure proper O-ring and cap orientation. “Checker vision sensors have helped us achieve zero-defect rates in the manufacturing process, while lowering scrap,” observes Manufacturing Engineering Manager Shane Harsha...
