FIX This Mess

It's a Case of a Fox in a Dem House

By Mike Botta

Goodbye freedom of the press and free speech. America has now crossed over the big red line.

Apparently the White House has declared war on a major news operation, in this case Fox News, claiming it is not a legitimate news organization.

That begs the question. What is a legitimate news organization?  TMZ, NBC, IEN, Business Week, the Weekly World News, TV Guide, The Huffington Post, The New York Times, Entertainment Tonight, The David Letterman Show?

The Bigger Question

It also begs the bigger question: Has the White House now appointed itself as the ultimate authority on what constitutes legitimate news media?

Is this not a very, very dangerous precedent for America? Other nations, even our closest allies, don’t give journalists the same wide press freedoms that we enjoy in the U.S.

Are we headed down a long slippery slope?

Media Has Lost Its Way

There’s no question that mainstream media has lost its way, dating way back to the Watergate era after which every journalist suddenly became an “investigative” journalist and set off on some sort of a witch hunt. As with any other business, media continues to evolve, sometimes for the better, but often for the worse. It’s a business.

Today, with the proliferation of channels, instead of reporting the news, mainstream media outlets routinely take sides. Is that the way to go? Probably not, but the practice is backed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

A Horrible Mistake

Whether you agree or disagree with the White House ban on cooperation with Fox News, it is a horrible and very dangerous mistake to go down that path.

Maybe the best fix would be for all the individuals in the Administration who pushed that agenda to start looking for a different line of work. Whatever happened to good honest discussion and debate?

Say anything negative about a sitting President, whoever it happens to be now or in the future, and get hammered.

Isn’t that the type of thing that happens in places like China and the former Soviet Union?

Hopefully clearer heads will prevail and wars on news organizations will end so more attention can be placed on the real wars and burning issues facing the nation.

Even if you aren't a sports fan this is very interesting! NBA OR NFL During the past year: 36 have been accused of spousal abuse 7 have been arrested for fraud 19 have been accused of writing bad checks 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses 3 have done time for assault 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges 8 have been arrested for shoplifting 21 currently are defendants in lawsuits, And, 84 have been arrested for drunk driving In the last year Can You guess which organization this is? NBA Or NFL ? do not Give up yet? Scroll down, Neither, it's the 535 members of the United States Congress The same group that cranks out Hundreds of new laws each year Designed to keep the rest of us in line. Next year November 2nd, 2010 we need to replace all of them, 100%. Make them live on Social Security and Medicare and on a crappy HMO and take away their inflated benefits for years of work and see if we can get social reform!!

Be very careful. The government has already started to control everything or at least try to. Once they control salary caps, Healthcare and the media, only God knows what else is next. Our government is quickly moving from socialist to communist.

It is very refreshing to see that the vast majority of the responses here are accurate and take a stand for our Republic. Just be reading the negative comments, you can hear the ignorance to history. It always comes from those that need or want big brother to control their lives. The issue is, they don't see it as a problem. Apparently, history isn't a very good teacher. Then again, if it's being taught in our public schools it wouldn't be. I voted enthusiastically for W. both times. I couldn't do that today based on what I now know, and to the detractors against Glenn Beck, you can thank him for that. While Bush did some very good things such as defending our 2nd Amendment rights both here and at the UN, he spent like there was no tomorrow! Fox does stand out as leaning right. Don't you think that maybe, just maybe that is because all the other outlets are left??? How many of you in the maintenance field reading this understands that if it ain't broke you don't fix it? And if it is broke, you fix the problem and the source. You don't rebuild the whole machine. America, our Republic, did not break! It doesn't need to be rebuilt, especially into something it is not supposed to be. Between greed and corruption, both in business AND in government, we've been damaged. America certainly needs to be repaired. NOT rebuilt. And as in the past that will be best accomplished by "we the people", not by handouts from the government. The worst thing we can do is to think about the tyrants of the world and say"it can't happen here". Think about it, the more the government gives, the more the people expect to be given, aka - not working for. Also, the more the govt gives, the more they have to take! Probably from YOU! So, I'll ask you, if you can be open to logic, facts and reason - perhaps you will dedicate just 1 week to watching Glenn Beck on Fox. That's only 5 hours of your time. On the other hand, if you are so blinded by party loyalty that no amount of logic will ever move you, I wish you good luck. With all of the people looking for a hand out, you're going to need it.

Fox is not a news organization, it is a ministry of propaganda, reflected just as you have slanted the issue in this article. Your job is to sell me your clients equipment. You wont be doing that anymore.

  • Heinz Lackner on Oct 26 2009 12:47:19:000PM

talking to crazy people like Glen Beck is crazy. There is no way you can change anything bengaging them. Comparing ignoring Fox with press freedom in China and Stalins Soviet Union is shear lunacy. Those were Tyrannies of the first kind and any dissent ended in torture and executions.

Everyone better shut up, chill out and get your facts straight ! Media is owned Lock Stock and rotting barrel by the " Already Wealthy," that now owns your Public Air Waves. Conservative Brain-Washing Lobbyists paid off the FCC so that Equal Time to all arguments is no-longer mandated on Radio or Television . The Wealthy have nothing better to do than Brain Wash the stupids that also think that their going to get part of their Pie,...so Dream-On d..k-heads. FOX is a ConServative outhouse where A..-Wholes decide to take a dump. Lies based on more lies is what FOX trowels out and little more. FOX is a Political Opinion stunt and based on the same type of disinformation and propaganda that still gives life to China, or haven't you weazels figured that out yet ? You Bible-Whimpers meanwhile,....keep your Religion fully disconnected from your Government and where the light don't shine, or some Muslim Terrorist your so afraid of will most likely remove your head with a chain saw as they ride their camels through your local shopping mall, with their AK-47s blazing. That's true because I heard it on FOX.

I totally agree! There is a great danger starting down the road of silencing opposition. The media is carefully controlled in many other countries that we consider as having much less freedom and usually a much lower standard of living. I don't want that here! As for Fox News, it appears that they are the only legitimate news outlet on many issues. I am happy they are there and that they are doing what they are doing. Anyone that doesn't like that has the freedom, in this country, to change the channel.

It has been said very well a couple of times. The 1st admendment is not to protect polite speech but to protect offensive speech. It was said even better in the movie "The American President" when it was said that the 1st admendment is not easy, it is hard to listen to someone talk about a subject that makes your blood boil but you still have to support the right to do so. I feel that this administration is NOT living up to its pledge to support the Constitution.

  • Ken Walker on Oct 26 2009 4:25:17:000PM

I agree. This same group questioned the patriotism of those of us who went to Tea Parties & questioned the health care bills proposed by the administration. It does appear we are moving toward an Obamanation if we are not already there.

  • Rose Ann DaRe on Oct 26 2009 3:12:23:000PM

THANK YOU!!! I appreciate your awareness of this subject and your willingness to speak out!Isn't it funny (or sickening) that anything said by people like Micheal Moore is A-OK but have a differing opinion and you are a victim of attack from the left. I think they are attacking FOX to place our attention on something besides Health Care Reform and the Cap and Trade issues which by the way will cost all of us much more than we know. SPEAK OUT AGAINST ANY MORE GOVERNMENT TAKE OVERS!!!!! We should all be self reliant and accountable and not think the government is the answer to all of our problems, This country was founded by the people and for the people, why is it today that just a few in control are behind closed doors "fixing our health care problems"? MMMMM and they are attacking FOX why?

  • Chris Brandt on Oct 26 2009 3:09:19:000PM

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them." -- Samuel Adams

  • Mike Rightmire on Oct 26 2009 3:08:52:000PM

Good job Mike! Its apparent there is some much needed fresh air for many people. When things aren't going well in a baseball game you sometimes need to fall back to the basics. In this case, God, family, country.

  • brian robertson on Oct 26 2009 1:59:07:000PM

I certainly agree we are headed down a dangerous road. Hopefully Americans wake up by next years mid-term election.

  • Don Ellis on Oct 26 2009 1:26:12:000PM

Mike and other IEN members: I'm very glad that someone else outside the political arena is paying attention and making statements about the obama administration's slide or sprint to socialiasm and worse. I was in the FSU after it's break up and saw this creeping paralysis of many of their short-lived freedoms. We have got to take back our Republic! Don't stop writng the exposurers. All best success. It's less about freedom of speech, I beleive, and more about access. The White House is not giving FOX access to Pres. Obama. And I'm not sure the White House owes anyone or any news organization such access. Having said that, I do beleive the White House is making a big mistake.

It's the same old story of Chicago strong arm politics . It's the Chicago way or the graveyard .
