Safety is primary in work place and training is essential for any safety or healthy program. Training enables workers to incorporate safe operating procedures in their job assignments and reinforce safety procedure.

Safety training programs addresses issues such as:

  • Performance of work specifications that lays stress on productivity, safe operations, and quality
  • Details about procedures, standards, and agencies, with regard to safety, loss prevention, and health
  • Explanation of shared responsibilities of management and employees of the agency
  • Knowledge about risks and potentials for losses which result from employees’ action
  • Discussion concerning workers’ and management’s judgment about their experience during potential hazardous conditions
  • Direction regarding worker or supervisory needs to voice their concerns about safety matters and loss control

Types

Safety training programs are classified into three categories:

  • New employment orientation training
  • Specific subject matter training
  • Remedial training

The subject areas in which safety trainings are provided, are chemical safety, fire safety, forklift safety, ergonomics, personal protective equipment, hazardous waste material disposal, blood borne pathogens, emergency health procedures, agricultural safety, respiratory problems, radioactive material safety, electrical safety, and machine guarding.

Employee Responsibilities

Employee participation is primary in safety training programs and it is the employees’ responsibility to follow safety procedures in a working environment. The rules to be followed by employees in the working environment are:

  • Employees can undertake a risky task if they receive adequate safety instructions and are authorized to do the task
  • Employees should carefully handle the chemicals and should have enough knowledge on their toxic properties
  • In case of risky conditions such as work related illness, employees should report to supervisory and safety departments
  • Employees should use a personal protective equipment in case of requirements and the equipment should be properly maintained

Totally safety training programs provide a more secure environment to workers and also encourage and promote employee safety measures.
