Racks
Description
Racks are multi-tier storage systems used to handle pallets and cartons for manual or automatic pick or put away access. Normally racks are made of steel, glass or plastic. Common accessories of racks are drawers, trays or shelves, cable runway, enclosures. Factors to be considered in selecting of racks are storage density, height and width, environmental conditions and materials to be stored.
Designing of racks
Pallet racks are most common racks. Designing of pallet racks is complex. The rack systems have very high tolerance as they are designed for usage by advanced material handling equipment like narrow aisle turret truck and high bay elevations. Factors to be considered in designing are operational requirements, storage area and retrieval requirements.

Application
Racks are essential component in distribution and storage facilities. They are used for purpose of storage in home, commercial and office establishments. To load racks with machines, pallet racks are ideal and are essential in retail centers, modern warehouses and in manufacturing facilities. Lumber racks are used for storing wood and suited for even small workshops. 19 inch racks are designed for mounting multiple electronic modules and are used to house computer server equipment and audio and video equipment and interfaces. Cantilever racks are used for storing building materials, fabrics, floorings and pipes.
