Materials Testers
Description
Material testers, test or analyze the chemical and physical characteristics of materials against specifications. They analyze and certify a broad range of products for chemical compatibility, purity, and environmental impact. By putting material under the influence of force, testers determine various parameters such as toughness, compression, coefficient of friction, tear resistance, break load, creep and stress relaxation, crush resistance, ductility, elastic limit, elongation, torsion, flexure strength, peel strength, shear strength, adhesion strength, deformation strength and rupture strength. A material tester uses precision load cells and external or internal extensometer for measuring elongation. On site calibration for material testers is essential; they need to be recalibrated if the tester is relocated.
Types
Commonly material tester is classified as:
Universal material testers
Tensile testers
Compression testers
Hardness testers
Abrasion testers
Single column testers
Twin column testers
Spring load testers
Plastic material testers
Automated material testers
Non destructive material testers
Destructive material testers
Advantages
Advantages of Material testers are:
More precise and provides better performance than a force tester
Provides functionality and accuracy
Testing the materials helps customers to meet international standards
Helps to detect flaws
Helpful in failure analysis
Applications
Material testers are ideal for use in quality control, R&D, education and production environments. Material testers are found extensively in all material testing laboratories. They are used for testing of building materials, plastics, rubber, paper, board, automotive products, wood, textiles, medical and pharmaceutical products, metals, adhesive and sealants, ceramics, glass, chemicals, fuel cells, composite materials, nano materials, petroleum, polymers, powders, soil, water, welds, electronic components and semiconductors or integrated circuits. Material testers are required if thermal chambers are used or if testing is done under constant loads.
