Fasteners
Description
Fasteners are a set of hardware components that join, hold, connect, or affix two or more parts together. Bolts, screws, rivets, clips, pins, and nails are some of the common types of fasteners. Bolts and screws are the most widely used industrial fasteners. Industrial fasteners are endowed with distinctive qualities to suit specific applications.
Types
The main types of fasteners are listed below
Bolts
Screws
Nails
Rivets
Anchors
Bolt fasteners are externally threaded rods inserted into pre-drilled holes. Bolt heads are supported and tightened by threaded nuts. Eye bolts, toggle bolts, carriage bolts, stove bolts, plow bolts, and hex bolts are some of the varieties of bolts available in the market today.
Screw fasteners are externally threaded but are fixed through pre-formed, internally threaded holes or tightened to inscribe their own thread into the workpiece. Deck screws, double ended screws, eye screws, wood screws, lag screws, and chipboard screws are a few types of screws widely used in the industry. The characteristic of a bolt or screw solely depends on the type of material used in its making.
Nail fasteners are pin-shaped and are driven into parts by a hammer under the application of strong force. Nail ends are clinched to prevent them from pulling out.
Clips are temporary holding devices. Paper clips, roach clips, crocodile clips, and bread clips are the common types of clips used today. Pins are made from drawn, sharpened steel. They are available in miniature as well as large sizes.
Applications
Fasteners find their major applications in the automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, agriculture, and construction sectors. Fasteners are also used in truck and tractor components, hydraulic fittings, bicycle fittings, sanitary fittings, ornamental grills, railings, iron furniture, metal equipments and a number of household appliances.
