Electric Connectors
Description:
The term electric connectors denotes different types of devices that can be used to connect electric conductors such as communication circuits, large cables, bus-bars, etc to other conductors or to the electrical equipment terminals. Establishing mechanical or electrical connections between conductors, terminals, equipment, or apparatus is the primary function of electrical connectors. The electrical connectors can either be used temporarily in portal equipments or can be used to establish permanent connection between conductor and electrical equipment or between assemblies, simple tools, printed circuit boards (PCB), electrical circuits, etc. High insulation value and low contact resistance are ideal parameters in all electric connectors.
Types:
Electrical connectors can be classified into following types:
Terminal blocks
Crimp-on terminals
Insulation displacement connectors
Plug and socket connectors
Component and device connectors
Blade connectors
Stud connectors
Expansion connectors or flexible connectors
The other common types of electrical connectors are listed below:
Advantages:
Electrical connectors offer the following advantages:
Electrical connectors are produced with low conductivity material for safe handling of equipments in high current surge applications.
Electrical connectors will have temporary or permanent connection options to facilitate specific connection applications
Electrical connectors are furnished with specific properties like water resistance, oil resistance and vibration resistance hence it can be used in adverse weather conditions
Applications:
Terminal blocks are used in flexible applications in the electrical and electronic industry
Plug and socket connectors are used in portable appliances for temporary connections
D-subminiature connectors are used in telecommunications, computers and test and measurement instruments
Specialty electric connectors are applied for radio frequency and microwave applications
