Description

Computer network equipment are communication devices that mediate data in a in a wired or wireless computer network unit. It is also called as mediator or interface for the transmission of data over a network. The equipment provides interoperability of computer and systems and also allows many users to share various elements such as data and communication links with other systems. In some cases, the equipment provides connectivity and as well as boosts, controls and stabilizes the data transmission on the network medium.

Types

  • Bridges - connect multiple network segments on the data link layer
  • Routers - determine the next network point for forwarding a data packet on way to its destination.
  • Switches - Allocate the traffic from a network segment to other intended destinations

  • Repeaters - regenerate digital signals that are received and set them from one network to another
  • Hubs - connect together many ethernet segments by making them behave as one single segment

• Modem - modulates or demodulates an analog carrier signal to encode as a digital information or to decode the transmitted information
• Multiplexer - combines many electrical signals to one signal or creates a mixture of color video signals from its constituents (as in a color TV)
• Network card - it is a computer hardware that allows the attached computer to communicate with other computers by network
