Description
A butterfly valve is a flow control device used to regulate fluid (fluids like water, acid, chemicals, air, LPG, gases and combination of gases and solids) flow through a pipe section. The valve belongs to the “quarter turn valves “(disc rotating 0 to 90 degree) family. The operation of butterfly valve is similar to ball valve operation. It controls the fluid flow by circular disc or vane attached with its pivot axis at right angle to the direction of flow. The butterfly valve consists of a body, resilient seat (irresistible), butterfly disk, stem, packing (for protection), notched positioning plate and handle. The valve is made of raw materials like cast iron, cast steel which are corrosion resistant. The valve may be operated manually or can be hydraulically/pneumatically operated.
