In order to utilize warehouse space more efficiently and increase picking efficiency to handle the company’s 20% annual growth rate, Bargreen Ellingson, a multiservice equipment supply, restaurant design, and fabrication company located in Tacoma, WA recently installed a high-performance horizontal carousel system from White Systems. The carousel installation serves many functions for their operation. To improve space utilization and picking efficiency for their food service supplies, Bargreen Ellingson installed a pod of 4 White Systems horizontal carousels integrated with Intek WMS software. They moved the smaller and fast moving SKUs to the horizontal carousels and increased their efficiently dramatically with one person now pulling 200 lines/hr.  In addition to the space savings and picking productivity, the White carousel systems also offer protection of the supplies, increased organization, and improved inventory accuracy and control.

“To handle our tremendous growth rate we moved from a 45,000 sq ft distribution center to a new building with 100,000 sq ft. We needed a system that could increase our picking efficiency and save valuable floor space,” says Tom Murphy, VP of Operations. “The White horizontal carousels allowed us to move 40% of our SKUs to just 4% of our building. This also increased the efficiency of the other part of our warehouse since they no longer had to deal with the smaller items. Picking efficiency in that area increased from 30–40 lines/hr to 60–70 lines/hr.”
