Two of the three SEW-Eurodrive nominations submitted to the Plant Engineering 2002 Product of the Year Awards were selected as winners. For its Decentralized Control Technology, SEW-Eurodrive received the Gold Award in the category of Electric Motors, Drives, & Controls. The Silver Award in the Power Transmission category went to TorqLOC™.
Awards were presented at a black-tie reception during the 2003 National Plant Engineering Show, March 3-6, at McCormick Place in Chicago.
1. SEW-Eurodrive''s Decentralized Control Technology locates the controller on or near the motor itself. This design results in substantial cost savings, efficiency of maintenance, and ease of installation. The following savings ranges were found in a third-party audit by AE Solutions, a systems integrator:
- 7% to 43% on Material
- 13% to 33% on Installation and Labor Costs
- 63% to 98% Panel Construction Hours
2. TorqLOC™ is a compact hollow shaft mounting system that adds versatility to SEW 7-Series hollow shaft reducers. SEW''s answer to keyless hollow shaft mounting, the TorqLOC system offers interchangeable bushings for mounting SEW hollow shaft gear reducer products onto various sized solid shafts. The TorqLOC eliminates the need to cut keyways or turn the solid shaft to exacting tolerances, thus reducing the costs of new machines as well as lowering replacement expense.
TorqLOC Features:
- Dimensionally compact design, allowing for mounting locations close to bearings or machine frames.
- Dependable support of the hollow shaft reducer on the solid shaft while delivering maximum torque and shock load capability.
- Gear reducer can be removed after years of service as easily as the first day it was installed.
- Available in either electroless nickel or stainless steel to withstand the harshest environments.
