Managers at JC Penney catalog distribution centers have to be detail oriented. They keep track of which products go to which customers on which days. Not surprisingly, the company also manages data related to its employee productivity with the same degree of detail, working hard to prevent intangible losses, such as time and efficiency.
The JC Penney catalog distribution center in Forest Park, GA is one of five catalog divisions operated by the company throughout the United States. All support the company''s 1,050 stores in 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.
The Georgia distribution center needed an identification card printer to create ID cards for its 2,500 employees. When looking for the right equipment, the loss prevention staff wanted something "sturdy and reliable," said Sarah Baugh, Loss Prevention. Anthony Bass, a Fargo Solution Provider at Plasticard Systems-Georgia, helped them find the right printer to meet their needs.
JC Penney selected a Fargo DTC515 printer, known for its speed, reliability, and easy-to-use features. The cards used in the Georgia facility contain a photo and employee information on one side, a bar code on the other.
Today, JC Penney''s Georgia distribution center not only tracks employee time and attendance, but also collects valuable information for the Loss Prevention staff.
"The system can tell the production departments what time an associate entered the building before punching in," said Baugh. "We can tell how many times an employee went past a point of entry for a smoke break or unauthorized time off. We are alerted by the system if someone attempts to enter before his or her assigned time or day.
"We can bring up an employee''s picture for immediate identification, and the system tells us the employment status. We are able to advise the authorities if someone they are looking for is still employed here and whether or not they are at work."
Managing the details is important at JC Penney, and the Fargo DTC515 helps the company do just that.
