FKI Logistex Crisplant Wins Baggage Handling Systems Contract for Brussels Airport
Arhus, Denmark, Sept. 4, 2001 - FKI Logistex Crisplant, a global leader in airport baggage handling systems, announces that it has won a contract for an integrated baggage handling system for Pier A at Brussels International Airport. The contract, awarded by the Brussels International Airport Company (BIAC), is valued at £20 million and is scheduled for completion by January 2003. The winning system design features Crisplant''s unique CrisBag sorter technology as well as all mechanical systems, controls systems and software interfaces.
The CrisBag system utilizes standard totes for transporting all baggage. The system configuration includes 10km (6.21 miles) of transport modules, hold baggage screening, automatic early baggage storage for 1500 bags, and sortation to 19 make-up carousels with an option to extend to 31 carousels.
The new baggage handling system will handle outbound, inbound and transfer baggage for the new Pier A. The installation, which is connected via a basement level tunnel, must interface with existing systems. The tunnel will extend the whole length of the Pier A terminal. Outbound baggage will be transported from the basement to make-up carousels on the apron level. Transfer and inbound baggage is unloaded on the apron level and transported via conveyor to the basement-level exchange for further handling.
Crisplant CEO Erik Laursen said that the BIAC contract is Crisplant''s second CrisBag total system sale. A similar system has been chosen for Munich Airport for the new Terminal 2 in Germany. "We are expecting the CrisBag system to become the technology of choice for future systems. This contract is important because it is confirming our technologies and validates our role as a single source total baggage handling systems provider," said Laursen.
The contract with BIAC is another strategic FKI Logistex win for the baggage handling team as it builds on its reputation for proven and reliable integrated systems and support projects.
