NEMA Releases Standard on Vacuum-Break Magnetic Controllers

Rosslyn, VA, July 9, 2002 -- NEMA, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, has released ICS 2, Part 9-2002, AC Vacuum-Break Magnetic Controllers Rated 1500 Volts AC.

This standard, a new part to ICS 2-2000 that will be folded into that standard during its next revision, provides practical information concerning ratings, construction, test, performance, and manufacture of industrial control equipment. It covers the requirements of magnetically operated, full-voltage, vacuum-break, non-combination controllers -- devices capable of interrupting operating overloads -- rated 1500 volts for both motor and non-motor loads. The motor-rated controllers are full-voltage for use with squirrel-cage and wound-rotor induction motors. The non-motor loads may be single or three-phase transformer, capacitor, heating, or lighting loads.

"This standard required a lot of labor, and has been anticipated by those companies that manufacture 1500 volt vacuum-break magnetic controllers," said Dan Dupont, chairman of the NEMA motor controllers subcommittee. "It''s a nice piece of work that brings together valuable information the industry needs."

ICS 2, Part 9-2002 may be purchased for $51.00 by contacting Global Engineering Documents at 800-854-7179 (within the U.S.), 303-397-7956 (international), 303-397-2740 (fax), or on the Internet at www.global.ihs.com.
