April 1, 2008 - Rosslyn VA: The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has reaffirmed the following standards:

• DC 5-1989 (R1996, R2002, R2008) Residential Controls—Surface-Type Controls for Electric Storage Water Heaters
• DC 12-1985 (R1991, R1996, R2002, R2008) Residential Controls—Hot-Water Immersion Controls
• DC 13-1979 (R1985, R1991, R1997, R2002, R2008) Residential Controls—Line-Voltage Integrally Mounted Thermostats for Electric Heaters

All three standards have been developed by the Residential Controls Section to promote a better understanding between the manufacturer and the user by providing for interchangeability though industry standardization and to assist in selecting and obtaining the proper equipment. They feature updated normative references.
