In an open supply chain, communication is the key to compatibility, and you need an identification label that speaks both languages. Hybrid tag/labels allow the supply chain to access information using either RFID and/or bar code technology. The RFID tag is embedded between the label material and adhesive layers of the label protecting the transponder while allowing for attachment to the product.
Our read/write capabilities allow us to preprogram the RFID chip with specified content such as custom serial number, EPC code, or the bar code number on the front of the label into the RFID chip, saving time and eliminating errors because the chip communicates directly with the database system.
Designed primarily for use with mobile assets -- specifically the reusable/returnable container and pallet industry -- this durable label utilizes a specially formulated adhesive suited for flat or curved polyethylene and polypropylene surfaces; while subsurface printing shields the bar code from the rough handling of most logistics systems.
End users for the hybrid label would include any container leasing companies, pallet leasing companies, or any company with a large enough container or pallet fleet that they need to track. This is especially relevant with the Wal-Mart mandate that suppliers use RFID. Although the hybrid label was developed for more mobile assets, it also is a good solution for certain fixed assets.
