With its introduction of digital video coordinate measuring machines, Digital Precision Corp has brought the latest technologies and new approaches to a wide variety of industry inspection tasks, significantly improving image quality and reducing processing time. Based in Huntington Beach, CA, the company is a global provider of video microscopes and manual measuring systems, as well as multi-sensor digital video CMMs.
Digital Precision Corp builds shop-ready measurement solutions to meet customers’ exacting specifications in semiconductor manufacturing, machine shops, and other quality-control applications. When recently challenged with issues of both performance and price in the design of two newly ordered video metrology and gagging measurement machines, the company turned to Toshiba Teli America, Inc for cameras that would accurately capture video images of various size workpieces. These images in turn would be transferred to a video monitor for onscreen analysis using Digital Precision’s proprietary software.
Digital Precision consulted with Al Sabeh, vice president of sales at Toshiba Teli America.
“After reviewing the two designs I recommended incorporating our new CSB4000F four-megapixel CMOS camera with FireWire and 2008 x 2047 resolution," he said. "On the other machine, I recommended our CS6910F, a next-generation FireWire color camera that leverages a honeycomb-style Super CCD to achieve SXGA resolution images at up to 30 frames-per-second.”
The CSB4000F's ultra-high resolution qualified it for use with large field of view (FOV) measurement and inspection. Coupled with an FOV microscope, the camera can measure larger size parts, such as 50 mm x 50 mm, with better than 5 µm accuracy online or off-line without an expensive stage. When using a stage, the system can measure one part in an FOV or an array of parts, thus increasing the performance dramatically.
“The camera has a reduced overall cost and the measurement and inspection is extremely accurate,” said Yan Yu of Digital Precision Corp.
The CS6910F was employed in a stage-driven system, explained Yan: “We found the CS6910F to be an excellent replacement for traditional CCD cameras. It offers simple installation, improved resolution with excellent color reproduction, and overall excellent accuracy.”
