AIM Announces Datastrip2D Symbology As New Work Item

Pittsburgh, PA, 15 January 2004 -- AIM, the Association for Automatic Identification and Data Capture Technologies, has approved the Datastrip2D symbology as a new work item for development into an AIM International Technical Standard.

Datastrip2D is a variable-size, variable-density two-dimensional bar code symbology offering very high data capacity. The symbology has a unique combination of matrix density and variable rectangular aspect ratio. Datastrip2D handles large data capacity in a single symbol (typically 2800 bytes and above).

The use of Datastrip2D is of particular benefit to applications such as secure ID cards, medical data cards, and machine-readable travel documents, due to the size and density of the symbology.

Standardization of Datastrip2D will be done by the AIM Technical Symbology Committee (TSC). The TSC is comprised of technical experts from AIM member companies such as Denso, HHP, Intermec, Paxar, Symbol Technologies, and Zebra Technologies.

The symbology was submitted to AIM by Datastrip, Inc. Datastrip is a provider of secure high-density 2D bar code software and hardware, and biometric identification devices. Datastrip, with its partners, provide total solutions for ID document and passport production, access control and other identity verification systems.
